1. Introduction of Giant Squid Tentacles
China's frozen giant squid tentacles are derived from the jumbo squid (Dosidicus gigas), a species known for its large size and high commercial value. These tentacles are processed using seafrozen technology (on-board quick freezing) to lock in freshness, texture, and nutritional value immediately after being caught. The processing typically involves removing the beak, eyes, neck and other non-edible parts, with optional removal of suckers or sexual organs based on customer requirements. The final product is sold in various cuts (e.g., whole tentacles, diced) and sizes (300–1000+ grams), catering to both food service and retail markets.
2. Catch Area Primary Fishing Ground: The Humboldt Current off the coast of Peru (FAO Fishing Area 87), where nutrient-rich upwelling supports abundant squid populations.
Fishing Method: Primarily caught using jigging, a selective and efficient method that minimizes bycatch.
3. Output Peru's Catch Volume: In 2025, Peru’s total giant squid catch reached 304,209 tons, exceeding its adjusted quota due to strong resource recovery.
Our Processing Capacity: Blue Sea Fishery, as a major giant squid processor, handles a significant portion of Peru’s squid catch. For example, we exported ¥30 million worth of squid products in H1 2025, driven by high demand for tentacles and other processed items.
4. Catch Season Peak Period: The main fishing season for jumbo squid in Peru runs from late spring to early summer (May–August), coinciding with optimal water temperatures and feeding patterns.
Regulatory Adjustments: Peru extended the 2025 fishing season to August 31 and increased the quota to 290,000 tons to meet global demand while ensuring sustainability.
5. Export Countries Our frozen giant squid tentacles are exported to over 80 countries, with the following key markets:
Japan and South Korea: Major importers for both raw and processed tentacles, used in sushi, tempura, and street food.
United States: High demand for frozen battered or grilled tentacles in restaurants and retail chains.
Spain and Italy: Key markets for Mediterranean cuisine, where tentacles are featured in tapas and seafood stews.
Thailand and Southeast Asia: Used in local dishes like Thai stir-fries and Vietnamese seafood soups. Emerging Markets: Countries like Mexico and Guatemala are increasing imports for value-added products. China Frozen Giant squid tentacles supplier/exporter/producer/manufacturer
