As winter approaches in the Southern Hemisphere, Brazil's tilapia industry has demonstrated a robust market performance. According to the latest industry report released by the Brazilian Center for Advanced Studies in Applied Economics (CEPEA), the prices of tilapia in the country's main producing regions remained stable overall from May to June, showcasing strong market resilience.

Market monitoring data shows that driven by the traditional consumption peak of "Lent", domestic demand for tilapia in Brazil was strong in early May. The average tilapia price in Western Paraná remained stable at 7.45 reais/kg (approximately $1.30/kg, ¥9.70/kg) in May, on par with April. Tilapia prices in Northern Paraná and Morada Nova de Minas region were maintained at 8.65 reais/kg and 8.45 reais/kg respectively (approximately ¥11-¥11.27/kg). Notably, tilapia prices in the Great Lakes region saw a slight increase, rising from 8.05 reais/kg in April to 8.13 reais/kg in May (approximately ¥10.59/kg).

CEPEA analysts pointed out: "Although the drop in temperature in late May led to a slowdown in consumption demand, the overall tilapia price level remained stable, which fully reflects the maturity and consumption resilience of the Brazilian domestic market." After entering June, tilapia market prices continued to stay stable, with some regions experiencing a slight decline of no more than 0.05 reais.

In terms of exports, data shows that Brazil's tilapia export volume in May was 1,420 metric tons, a 7.4% decrease from April, exhibiting seasonal correction characteristics. However, tilapia export still increased by 2.2% compared to the same period last year, indicating that the long-term demand for Brazilian tilapia in the international market remains solid.

Industry experts analyze that the current short-term fluctuations in export volume are mainly affected by seasonal factors. With the continuous growth of global demand for aquatic products and the improvement of quality recognition for Brazilian tilapia in the international market, the long-term export prospects remain promising. The stable performance of the domestic market also provides strong support for the healthy development of the tilapia industry.
