Maonan District Holds Launch Conference for Tilapia Producer Insurance Project! Financial Support Empowers the "One Tilapia Fish" Industry to Grow Stronger

To further expand the agriculture-connecting and farmer-driven effects of the tilapia producer insurance project and steadily promote the development of the tilapia supply, the Launch Conference for the Implementation of Maonan District's Tilapia Producer Project in Maoming City was held on the morning of June 12 at the Collaborative Innovation Center for Maonan Tilapia in Maoming. The conference was hosted by the Maonan District Agriculture and Rural Affairs Bureau and the Maonan District Finance Bureau, and co-organized by Datong Insurance Broker Guangdong Branch, Guangdong Agricultural Guarantee Co., Ltd., Maoming Maonan District Financial Industry Promotion Association, and other financial insurance institutions. This marks the successful implementation of the Maonan tilapia producer insurance project, a new milestone in financial support for agriculture, providing protection for farmers and enterprises.

It is understood that in recent years, under the correct leadership of the Maonan District Party Committee and Government and the strong support of industry departments, the tilapia processing has developed into an important characteristic and large-scale industry in Maonan District's agriculture. Maonan District has become the core area and main production region for Maoming City's implementation of the "One Fish" project strategy and the creation of a tilapia supply of "Golden Triangle" industrial base. In March this year, Maonan tilapia was selected for the 2025 National Modern Agricultural Industrial Park project, ushering in unprecedented development opportunities for the Maonan tilapia producers. The high-quality development of the tilapia industry is inseparable from financial empowerment. By promoting the integrated development of "insurance + industry," a new pattern for the high-quality development of the tilapia industry is being accelerated. With the assistance of the Chan-Mao collaboration, after nearly a year of research, discussions, plan design, repeated consultations, bidding, and other work, the district-level innovative insurance product—Maonan tilapia producer insurance—has been implemented, marking an important step in the development of Maonan's tilapia processing.

At the conference, the head of the Yuexi Management Center of Guangdong Agricultural Financing Guarantee Co., Ltd. summarized the phased work on bank loans and guarantee subsidies for the tilapia price; the head of Datong Insurance Broker Guangdong Branch preached on the tilapia supplier insurance policies; the head of Taiping Property Insurance Guangdong Branch introduced the project promotion and implementation arrangements; and the District Agriculture and Rural Affairs Bureau presented an overview of the district's tilapia industry. This can guarantee tilapia suppliers with basic benefits of tilapia even though tilapia price is not good.

At the conference, relevant leaders issued work commitment letters to the insurance underwriting agencies for this project—Taiping Property Insurance Guangdong Branch, PICC Property & Casualty Maoming Branch, and China Life Property & Casualty Maoming Central Sub-branch—and also issued work commitment letters to ten towns and streets in Maonan, including Jintang and Gongguan. The ceremony also included the flag-awarding ceremony for the Policy Promotion and Three Agricultures Service Volunteer Team, which will go deep into grassroots areas to spread insurance knowledge, practice service spirit, and assist in the construction of the district, town, and street three-level financial service system. Representatives of the co-insurance body, aquaculture enterprises, and tilapia farmers, tilapia manufacturers went on stage to sign insurance contracts.

Leaders from Maonan District stated that it is necessary to fully leverage the role and value of this insurance project to empower the tilapia industry, give play to the agriculture-connecting and farmer-driven effects of the tilapia producer insurance project, create a successful practical model for characteristic industry development, and assist in the development of the "Hundreds, Thousands, and Ten Thousands Project." Insurance underwriting agencies should improve service and product updates, enter villages and tilapia farmers' homes, clarify the role and value of insurance, effectively promote the government's agriculture-supporting and tilapia farmer-benefiting policies, implement insurance policies, and enhance the sense of gain for tilapia farmers and aquaculture enterprises; towns and streets should take the initiative to connect and actively participate in the promotion of various policies supporting the tilapia producer with financial means, making financial benefiting-farmer policies widely known; insurance consultants and project docking personnel should go deep into the front line, listen to the ideas and demands of tilapia farmers, collect opinions and suggestions, provide timely feedback, and submit suggestions for plan adjustments as needed, ensuring that people-benefiting policies are truly used for the people.
